Written Communication

People from non-English speaking countries tell me that English is a HARD language to understand...not so much from a textbook standpoint, but from the colloquial viewpoint.

It's important to keep in mind that people not native to the langauge to which you are accustomed have a difficult time deciphering the phrases not commonly found in the language dictionary.  For example:

"Flat" in the UK is an efficiency apartment.

"Touk" in Cambodia is a tourist.

"Bloke" in Australia is slang for a man.

See how confusing this can be to an "outsider?"  I'm working on catching English phrases before "letting the cat out of the bag."
